Attended the seventh session of the Hague Working Group

From July 16 to 18, 2018, two members (the Design Committee and the International Activities Center) of the Japan Patent Attorneys Association (hereinafter “JPAA”) attended the seventh session of the Working Group on the Legal Development of the Hague System for the International Registration of Industrial Designs in Geneva.

30 member countries, 22 observing countries, 1 international intergovernmental organization and 22 non-governmental organizations took part in the session. They actively discussed the agenda items. Many important items were decided at the session.

The JPAA expressed opinions regarding two agenda items in the discussion. One is agreement with various online payment systems. Another is anxiety over the possibility of a raise in application fees due to expansion of the language regime of the Hague System. The comments were favorably accepted.
